Are Republicans Pushing for a Carbon Tax?

In a word, yes.

Not all Republicans. But a group of Republicans has approached the White House with a plan that would tax carbon dioxide emissions in order to combat climate change.

They’ve even gone so far as to say their plan would drive job growth and protect the environment.

I’m suspicious.

This seems like a losing battle for Republicans. If they push for a carbon tax, Republican voters and average American workers will see them as raising prices on energy consumption, potentially making everything more expensive.

To assuage the base, these Republicans are offering to rollback a lot of environmental regulations. That gives Democrats an opening to demonize Republicans on environmental issues.

So we have a plan that pushes the global warming narrative, gives the government more control over energy consumption, and give Dems an opening to attack Republicans on the environment.
