China Goes Nuclear

Obviously, China is already a nuclear power.

But this last week, a pro-government paper in China — one with close ties to the Communist party — called for greater military spending by the Chinese government. And the paper called for at least some of that spending to focus on the development of more intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of delivering a nuke to the United States.

Why is China suddenly wanting to step up its nuclear arsenal?

Apparently the President-Elect has ruffled their feathers a bit. Trump has called China to task on a number of issues.

It’s only to be expected that China will push back. This is their first push, to call for an expanded nuclear arsenal in case Trump treats China “unacceptably” or takes provocative action in the South China Sea.

I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again… when it comes to international hostilities, the South China Sea is the place to watch.

I don’t think Trump will push China into aggressive action, but I don’t think he’ll roll over for them on anything either. It sounds like the ancient Chinese curse, “May you live in interesting times,” is definitely coming true both economically and politically. It’s a good time to be prepared for anything, because anything could happen.
