Will California Secede?

divorce-619195_640A fringe political group is hoping so. They’ve filed a ballot measure that is the first step toward making California its own nation.

Now, before you get too excited about Calexit, there’s a long row to hoe before the liberal state can cut ties with the United States.

The biggest obstacle is that California doesn’t have a right to secede under federal law. To make it happen would require a Constitutional amendment, which means not just California would have to be on board, but the other states, too.

This isn’t the first time, this same political group — Yes California Independence Campaign — has tried to start the secession process. It is however, the first time their efforts have gained any steam. And they have Donald Trump to thank for that.

It’s highly unlikely that any effort by California to break away from the union will succeed. But this is a sign of how divided our nation has become and the lengths that people will go in response to those divisions. We’re in for turbulent times… a lot of social unrest.

Now more than ever, it’s important to secure as much self-reliance as you can and to take steps to prepare for local breakdowns and violence.
